Understanding how your mind works

A psychological assessment at NeuroPathways isn't about finding what's wrong with you. It's a careful, collaborative process of understanding your strengths, your challenges, and the way your particular brain is wired — so the people around you can finally meet you where you are.

01

A Neurodiversity-Affirmative Approach

Traditional assessment was built to measure people against a single “normal” — and to catalog the ways they fall short of it. We don't work that way. We start from the understanding that brains differ, that difference is not deficit, and that a good evaluation should leave you feeling more understood, not more pathologized.

Your results come back as a portrait, not a verdict: where you're strong, where you struggle, what environments let you thrive, and what concrete accommodations and supports will actually help. An assessment can open doors — to the right therapy, to school and workplace accommodations, and often to a profound sense of relief and self-recognition.

Autism Assessment

Many autistic people — especially adults, women, and those who learned to mask early — go decades without an explanation for why life has felt the way it has. An affirming autism evaluation can be life-changing: not a label, but a language for your own experience.

We assess across the areas that matter — social communication, sensory experience, patterns of attention and interest, and the strengths that come with them — through interviews, history, and standardized measures, always in conversation with how you actually live.

ADHD Assessment

ADHD is far more than “trouble focusing.” It shapes attention, motivation, time, emotion, and energy — often in ways that are invisible to everyone but the person living it. We evaluate the full picture, including the ways ADHD and autism frequently travel together, and the anxiety or depression that can build up after years of being misunderstood.

The goal isn't just a diagnosis. It's a clear map of how your attention works and what helps it work with you instead of against you.

Comprehensive Psychodiagnostic Assessment

Sometimes the question is bigger than a single label. A comprehensive psychodiagnostic evaluation looks at personality, mood, thought, trauma, and relational patterns together — clarifying a complicated picture, resolving conflicting past diagnoses, and guiding a treatment plan that finally fits.

This is also the depth of assessment best suited to complex presentations and questions involving psychosis, where careful, humane evaluation matters most.

05

Learning & Cognitive Assessment

For children and adults alike, learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia are often mistaken for lack of effort or ability. A learning and cognitive evaluation identifies how someone takes in, holds, and expresses information — and produces the documentation needed for accommodations at school, university, or work.

Twice-Exceptional (2e)

Some minds are both gifted and disabled at once — brilliant in one domain and genuinely struggling in another. These “twice-exceptional” profiles are easy to miss, because the strengths mask the struggles and the struggles mask the strengths. We assess the whole person, so that neither half goes unseen and the right supports can be built around a real, complex picture.

Pre-Operative Evaluation

Certain surgeries — including bariatric procedures and spinal-cord stimulator implants — require a psychological evaluation beforehand. We provide thorough, respectful pre-operative assessments that meet your surgical team's requirements while treating you as a whole person, not a box to check.

The California End of Life Option Act

Some people with terminal illnesses choose to end their lives in a humane and painless way. This process requires a psychologist to confirm that the person has the cognitive capacity to make such a decision. We will work with your medical provider and aid you in this important decision.

What Assessment Looks Like

Every assessment begins with a conversation. We'll talk through what's bringing you in and what questions you're hoping to answer, then tailor the evaluation to those questions — never a one-size-fits-all battery. Most evaluations move through an intake and history, one or more testing sessions, and a feedback session where we walk through the findings together, in plain language, and leave you with a written report you can actually use.

Assessment Costs

Assessments require 10–30 hours or more of highly specialized labor. They can certainly be expensive, and sticker shock is normal. At NeuroPathways, we want to make assessment accessible. As such, we have various tiers of testing based on complexity. The lowest tier costs $1,800, and the highest is $4,800. Sometimes, even more testing is required, and costs can increase.

NeuroPathways charges much lower than most in California, where assessments can cost up to $10,000. We will also work with you on a payment plan if needed.
